Frequently Asked Questions

Can parents attend? We welcome female guardians to accompany their fly girl with written approval from GOTF. We will pair the child to the guardian for fly fishing activities but encourage separation during small group and the coping skills and resilience activities.

Can siblings attend? We love making it a family thing! Female siblings are welcome to attend. We do separate the family members during small group and the coping skills and resilience activities. We also group the girls in age range to keep the content engaging. We group 10-12 year olds and 13-15. The siblings will be paired, if they desire, during the fishing activities.

Do you eat the fish? While we love a good, fresh fish - these fish are only ‘Catch & Release’ fish. We strive for a healthy population and size of fish and want them to be around for future fly girls to enjoy.

Can I volunteer? YES! We prefer a 2:1 ratio of participants to volunteers to ensure the safety and unforgettable experience of our attendees. We do ask that you complete a volunteer application. Found HERE

What is included in the day? The day includes all fly fishing equipment (flies, terminal tackle), nets, fly rods, four stocked fishing ponds, volunteers, snacks, water to refill attendee’s water bottle, welcome bag and an unforgettable experience!

Do you have restrooms? We have a single toilet restroom inside our equipment house. Attendees are escorted to and from the restrooms by a mentor/volunteer to ensure safety and privacy.

What is the cost to participate? Our 2024 rates are $199 per person. We have a 10% sibling discount - use the discount coupon Code FLYSISTER.

Do you offer any financial hardship assistance? Yes, we have scholarships available to those who qualify. Eligibility is determined by our financial hardship committee. Partial and full scholarships are offered as funds are available.

Do you have an indoor space? In the case we experience inclement weather we do have a small shelter with fireplace to warm up and continue activities and discussions.

Do participants need a fishing license? No, not for these events as we will be fishing four private stocked ponds on private property. In Colorado you only need a fishing license if you are 16 years of age or older, and are fishing water that touches public water.

How old do I have to be to attend? Our current program and curriculum welcomes all girls age 10-15. We do split the girls into two groups 10-12 and 13-15, this is true for siblings. The exception would be if there was a friend request to attend together and the girls were represented in both age groups. All fly fishing skill levels welcome too!
